yum... powell's

A couple of weeks ago, I followed Matt to Portland, Oregon where we had the pleasure of experiencing free public transportation, great food and an inspiring artist community.

I love exploring. Walking around. Pondering. I live for "grand idea" moments and one place that created the perfect setting for grand ideas was Powell's City of Books; just a block away from our hotel. I spent five hours going through hundreds (out of the millions) of delicious books. Ahh ... the pearl room. Art, music, photography, film, dance, architecture, design. One whole row of graphic design books I had never seen before... ugh. Shame on you Barnes & Nobel. I just wanted to crawl into an empty shelf and live there ... take my time absorbing the energy I could hardly contain. It was wonderful. I miss this place.

But, I must move on. There will be others that can provide this feeling. Like... (drum roll) Salvage yards! (oh snap)

I've been holding back from these idea wonderlands only because I can't resist the instant attraction to something awesome. If I leave empty handed, I feel an unbearable regret of a missed opportunity. Yes, it is that serious.

So, for now. I'm making a mental note: devote a weekend to dumpster diving—where it's cool to do so— free of resisting the awesome.
